Work Scams

Beware of job postings that seem too good to be true, as scammers use fake listings to steal your personal and financial information.

Believe it or not, job listings are cluttered with scams and threat actors are just waiting for you to apply. Though, it may not look like what you expect. These aren’t listings advertising to be a scammer, the listing itself is the scam.

You may notice jobs offering staggering wages for tasks that don’t match the compensation. This is the scammer’s first foot in the door with suspecting victims. If you take a moment to look at job listings, you may see jobs with wages that state you can make a high monthly rate for a relatively easy job, it almost seems as if there’s a catch. Sadly, you are the catch. In cases like this, there is no job, no pay, just a scam with no positive outcome.

You might be wondering how this scam is deemed successful. When you apply for the job, they will contact you for an interview and it will seem like a legitimate offering. However, all they are trying to do is get you to fill out paperwork that most new hires will submit. Variables such as your social security number, bank account information, and other personal information will be expected to be submitted. Don’t fill this paperwork out and don’t give away your personal information.

Don’t get us wrong, there are legitimate jobs available that require your work to be completed and wages that reflect the work you do. Ensure you do your homework and verify the position exists before applying for your next seasonal position.
