Imagine coming home and seeing someone you don’t know, lounging in your living room. Feet up on the furniture, not using coasters, and wiping their greasy fingers on the upholstery. Unwelcomed intruders ensure our privacy is nonexistent and degrades our level of trust. In a similar fashion, email account takeovers can feel the same way.
However, account takeovers can affect you even if it’s not your email account. You may receive emails from a hostage account attempting to gain access to your account. If these attackers gain access to your email account, they have access to everything. They can change your account passwords, make changes to accounts, and wreak havoc on your contact list. Our lives are managed in our email accounts, an intruder can have a very negative effect on your life.
There are a few tactics we can use to not be a victim. Change your passwords on a regular basis and be careful clicking on links and attachments. As always, a healthy level of skepticism can go a long way.
