Have you ever met someone online that you don’t know in person? It may be far more common than you expect. With scams on the rise, day by day, romance and love are at the heart of internet fraud. Attackers will reach out to unsuspecting victims on dating sites. They will often build a profile that makes them very attractive, athletic, and wealthy. This, of course, is not the case. Attackers will make contact and convince the victim that they are having a long-distance relationship. Often, scammers will “plan” to travel to the victim. However, they will ask you to send them cryptocurrency to help fund the trip. At the last minute they will cancel or request more funds. Many people have lost thousands if not hundreds of thousands to these scammers. When meeting people online, ensure you know your contact. Video calls are a good way to verify them. Never send money or cryptocurrency to people who aren’t verified as a trusted recipient.
Romance Scams
Romance scammers use fake relationships to steal money, so always verify online contacts and never send funds to someone you haven’t met in person.
